Production | Sprint 6

The final full sprint draws to a close and we've been vigilant in making cuts wherever necessary. This sprint I had been assigned 2D art and sound. The 2D art, especially the poster and icon were mandatory deliverables that my leads emphasized the need to get them done. I will start off with the less important cards and save the more immaculate art for last.

It was asked of me to also do store front signs that would show the player what a structure would have inside. I took this as an opportunity to pay homage to some of the members of the team and theme each sign after a member of the ZIEF team.
I provided one grocery store sign and two hardware and two medical signs. This was a learning opportunity for what you can and cannot use in games regarding symbols. It was news to me that the red cross could not be used as it was a part of the Geneva Convention or so I'm told.

The first of the two critical cards was the icon for the game's .exe file. I took inspiration from the eyes of the infected as I felt it was the most unique feature of our infected. Blood splatter, yellow veins and yellow iris elicits a sense of unease and clear indication of infection.
The Z was pitched to me by my producer. He just wanted a circle and a Z but I felt it better to go a bit more above and beyond something that simple. It came out really good and I really enjoyed the red highlight makes the Z pop. I'm excited to see how this looks on someone's task bar.
Lastly the piece de resistance, the poster. I was very proud of how this turned out. It took me a lot of time and effort. I wanted to base this off of a movie poster. I took to game cover art and movie poster references to find a direction my lead wanted to go in. We drew from many sources and it led to this product.
The one and only issue is that my producer wanted to have the credit text be the same as the title text. I have to fix this in the lab as my version of photoshop does not have the font used. A symbol fix that will get done as soon as I am able.
I again paid homage to the team by having one of our modelers, our level designer, and the designer by having them be zombies in the reflection of the helmet visor. I would normally hand draw everything but I had to use photographs of myself with photoshop edits to achieve the final product within a timely matter.
The very last thing I did since I had time was make 10 sound effects for zombies. It was a fun way to destress and I sought to make long and short variants to ensure a varied stock of sounds to use. The last sprint is the crunch sprint and we will be focusing on the absolute essentials left for us.
