New Flame Sparked | Quick Pivot
This week I spent a good chunk of time getting a better block out for the torso and hips. However I will spend the next week pivoting on something different and I'll explain that last.
Here I've rotated the connectors to be the correct orientation. Each joint adjoins appropriately and I made sure to adjust the length of each limb. I also went on to group each joint group accordingly. It's rough but near where I want it to go.
The leg here is just elongated with the top vertexes rotated to match the angle of the connection point. I may adjust it to fit straight on in the torso rather than come in at an angle but it was a creative choice to angle it. The hip here took a lot longer than I would like to admit to get the right way. I placed the connectors appropriately as well as angled them. What constantly messed me up was how I was going to get the hip built around the connectors. Instead I opted to just cut the connectors into a hip shape.
The torso here is prepped to have the connectors cut and connected together much like the hip. I got the rough form of the front build and the cockpit in the back. As I go to cut in the connectors I will refine a lot more of the finer details. I do want to deviate from my references a bit but I will do that going forward. Lastly I got a casing for the arm started. It isn't the completed form but the general direction I want to take it. The Lancelot unit has large shoulder pauldrons so I will shape that to the desired form and make a plate to cover the body facing side of the arm. I also want to round out the arm a touch more going forward. I may swap for a cylindrical base instead of a cube.
So I mentioned that I would be pivoting this week. I was recently informed that submissions for the ECGAs is May 5th. I actually never heard of it until now surprisingly. I wanted to take something I made arbitrarily as it would change dramatically from its original form.
My sparklence. I made this base but never ended up using it for anything. I didn't like how much it was changed and I wanted to come in and adjust some of the topology and some of the form to be more appealing. I plan to just soften edges and make the smoothing where possible. I will take it into Z Brush to get finer details and texture the result. Lastly I will run it through Marmoset Toolbag to render.
Aside from wanting to win an award and feeling confident this is a wonderful prop for the prop modeling category I recently had a significant personal drive to bring it to fruition. This prop is derived from the series Ultraman Tiga, my childhood hero. I used to watch it with my Father and it was one of the few things we bonded over. After A very stressful few weeks I took a trip home for family. My Father sat me down and we watched the first episode together. I was confused but he told me that he enjoyed watching this with me when I was a kid. He moved me to tears when he said I would be a great Father one day who will share similar memories with my child. So its more personal than professional doing this, but I do feel like this would sweep the competition.
