Head-ing Forward | Blocking out the Head

This week I went back over the concept I had drawn for the torso. I took into consideration a great deal of the critique of my peers. I'd like to spend a touch more time refining what I've got for the torso. I just don't want to allow my lacking art skills to delay progress.

I spent far too long trying a rework. The most important part of this build is the torso. It's responsible for the overall silhouette and will make or break the visual appeal. I want to lean towards a leaner design but avoid appearing too thin to be strong. A tough balance indeed.

That is to say that this week was not void of progress. I did begin working on the head. A major struggle was derived from getting the side and front view into a 3D object. I mainly want to focus on the block out over set details. Adjusting the material colors is just for me to feel a touch more accomplished. I find the the side view is what I am going for aesthetically and the front is an approximation of width. I will definitely utilize the lattice tool later to adjust the form later.
Now an issue I know that will arise is the matter of unifying these objects into one mesh. I've been conditioned to use as low a poly count as possible. There are clearly more polys in the visor than the fin and getting them to link up may heavily rely upon the plate between the two accounting for both geometries. I will try to get the approximate shape first and foremost. It's always been a nasty habit of mine to over focus on detail too early.
So far the progress I'm making thus far is exciting. I'm a touch behind schedule, but with critical features like the torso being tenuous still I can't proceed with reckless abandon. I look eagerly down at the figurine inspiring me and the aspirations I have for this project with great confidence and vigor.
