Design Outline: Roadmap to Render
Prelude
In my first undertaking of the senior portfolio course, the freedom to create with nearly no limit was a blessing and curse. I will not dwell on past mistakes but learn from them. This time around I will create a concept, make a block out, refine and texture, and finally render.
Concept | Focus
I sought to find an avenue that allows creative freedom with enough parameters to stay focused. After time home with family it hit me. I plan to create a mech, but in order to remain on track I added a restriction of sorts. The mech has to follow the design concepts and mechanics of those in the Japanese animated series Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion. In this way I can be creative but still keep to a stringent focus.
In the series battles are fought using mechs called the humainoid autonomous battle armored knight or Knightmare Frame.
Foot soldiers and low ranking officers pilot generic models designated as Glasgows. There is nothing unique to these models and they are fairly common.
From this model I can derrive basic body mechanics that I can implement into a more unique design. This again goes with the restriction that my design and product must fit within the continuity of the series and be a believable addition to the series.
Continuity and stylization are what I believe to be important aspects of the industry. Often times one will be hired on existing IPs and be tasked with concepting and creating additions to them. Making additions that go "off brand" will detract from user experiences.
This is where the fun begins. In the series there exists an elite group of pilots called the Knights of the Round. These pilots receive custom Knightmare Frames unique to them. Like later models in the series, all of the KotR's models can fly.
These models utilize a variety of equipment that are the pinnacle of science in the series: energy wings, energy shields, lasers, and more. All plausbile applications to an original concept Knightmare Frame.
Units like the Mordred (left) and Tristan (right) are one of a kind. The Mordred utilizes one of the largest Hadron Cannons in the series and the Tristan is capable of changing between a humanoid and jet plane.
Units like the Lancelot (left) and Guren (right) are also one of a kind Knightmare Frames. Both utilize a Float System. The Lancelot is capable of all-around speed and destructive power. The Guren features a vicious Radiant Wave Surger.
Lastly units like the Galahad (left) and Gawain (right) feature unique equipment that play on the series' science and mechanics. The Galahad's massive blade can dispel Hadron blasts and absorb the energy. The Gawain would be modified to the Shinkiro where it could utilize the Absolute Defense Territory system.
There are a large variety of plays on the in universe science and technology that I am more than confident an original concept can be made that exists within the continuity of the series.
