Week Seven -- Classic Car -- Laying Out the Foundation
The car I am modeling is from the late 60's Heisei era Japanese show Ultraseven. It's got lots of points and hard edges with some fun accessories I may incorporate with time.
Setting up the project took a bit longer than anticipated. Being that the references I had didn't have scale measurements. I managed to find a advertisements for a model of the car at 1:24 the scale. So I found a height and length but no width. Fortunately I found a resource for the product that cited all three measurements. So the model will sit at 70 cm long, 19 cm tall, and 21 cm wide. I'll scale this up to meters later if needed. The reference images I have are from a model kit. I might opt to photoshop out the extraneous details intended for the decals and what not but it doesn't quite bother me. The car itself is surprisingly boxy. It has some sharp points, but at present I'm not too sure how well a curve cage is going to benefit me. I will do it just in case as it is better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.
I may approach blocking it out free hand within a very rudimentary curve cage to act as a bounding box of sorts. I will review the tutorials and gauge what will be more appropriate for my vehicle as everyone has a unique car that requires different approaches best suited to each.
This weekend I will finish the block out and begin working on fine details.
