Game Scene Final: Week Two
This week with the help of Professor Zelinsky I settled on a map from Paladins that would be the grounds of reference. I had settled with Splitstone Quarry. A large map indicative of a mining town.
The scene is wrought with structures of questionable OSHA compliant construction and more importantly personality. Every building has some patch work element to it that feels lived in and organic.
The difficulty was breaking down the builds into manageable, modular parts. I spent a short span of time trying to map out pieces for modular modeling. With limited time and limited references to the assets I opted to do it by eye so as not to overcomplicate the process as I tend to get wrapped up in minor details and wasting time.
Speaking of time spent obsessing, I spent way too much time focusing on making wooden posts appear organic. This was remedied by a stern scolding of me by me. To speed up time spent on each part I set a thirty minute timer to work on a modular piece. This improved timing wonderfully and allowed for me to step back and gauge progress. The issue was that it didn’t speed up progress enough.
The plan for next week is to finish. As this is my week two but the project’s week three. Prior breaks are reserved for family and recuperating from the first three quarters of the semester. Going forward I will not spend time with my family if the break is to fall on a project’s work week.
