Game Scene Final: Week One

    The Game Scene Final. The task outlined to us was simple. We were to construct two buildings, a centerpiece, and three props. Reference material was limited to three games: Forge of Empires, Warcraft Reforged, and Paladins. I decided upon Paladins as it drew the most intrigue for me. I had played the game and it felt easier to pick a first person shooter to draw reference from as it would be easier to scale the build. The other options were top down and seemed far too limiting.

    The task for the week was to decide on a map I would use as reference for buildings as the assets for Paladins are unavailable and there was no way to explore the map without being in a match. I would enlist a friend to do a custom match so I could survey various maps and their respective assets.

    The major problem is that there are over 30 maps with unique assets to decide on. Some maps were impossible to survey due to being relegated to specific game modes we couldn't enter in custom matches. This would in effect remove a few maps from the running but this was a welcomed limiting factor: less to sift through for me.

    For any future project I may avoid reference with too broad of assets as it takes up far too much time sifting through the plethora of options. The next week shall be spent narrowing down my map count and ideally selecting one.
